Cyclehoop design a custom solution for University College London

As part of University College London’s ongoing work to improve cycling facilities for staff and students, the UCL Sustainability Team have worked with Cyclehoop to install new much needed cycle parking at Foster Court on the main campus. The hub includes a fixed public bike pump and repair stand with a variety of tools for maintenance which is accessible to all staff and students.

Cyclehoop have a long history with UCL with the founder of Cyclehoop, Anthony Lau, having studied at The Bartlett School of Architecture when he first designed the original Cyclehoop. Anthony Lau stated:

“It was nice to be able to give something back my old university using the skills I learnt at architecture school. We came up with a modern and light weight canopy that fits in well with the traditional settings of Foster Court. Made in the UK, the canopy was engineered to be fixed to the surrounding walls, avoiding the need for traditional columns and foundations which would not have been possible due to the many underground pipes in the courtyard. It was a pleasure working with UCL to come up with this solution.”

Joanna Marshall Cook from the Sustainability Team adds “Cycling is a quick, low cost and low impact way to get around London and we’re making real progress to make UCL a cycling university. We know we’ve still got some way to go, but with new parking spaces and improved facilities we hope that more and more staff and students will consider cycling to and from UCL.”
